Analysis of  Southampton Vs Burnley City Tips

The second match of the weekend on Sunday before the high profile match between Arsenal and Manchester City, sees Southampton take on Burnley at the St. Mary Stadium. Southampton continues their adventure in the Premier League for the 19th season having narrowly missed dropping into the relegation zone at the end of the season.

The Saints started their 2017/18 season poorly, and by March, were in the relegation zone with 8 matches to go. A wholesale change in management was carried out and erstwhile coach, Mauricio Pellegrino was shipped out, with former Saints and Manchester United player, Mark Hughes brought in to take his place. The Welsh manager resumed duties with losses to Arsenal and Chelsea, however by the end of the season, had successfully steered the Saints away from the relegation zone.

However, on the Cup end, The Saints had a successful run, only losing to Chelsea in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Players who have been added to the club books include Stuart Armstrong from Celtic, Mohamed Elyounoussi – Basel, former Manchester City skipper Angus Gunn and Jannik Vestergaard from Borussia Monchengladbach. The club would be looking to maintain their Premier League status.

Burnley, however, has posted remarkable improvement over the last 2 seasons, and are due for a place in Europe this season. The visitors started their season ahead of others, taking part in the Europa League qualification phases, having played elite Scottish side, Aberdeen home and away to qualify for the third round. Since then, The Clarets have invested in players and have made signings in Ben Gibson, Matej Vydra as well as the recruitment of Manchester City wantaway goalkeeper Joe Hart; however, Manager Sean Dyche would still feel mollified that he’s not been able to add to his squad to complete effectively domestically and in Europe.

The likes of premium strikers Ashley Barnes, Sam Vokes and Manolo Gabbiadini remain and should give the visitors enough firepower up front.
